Christy Moore once worked as a bank employee. During the 12-week bank strike of 1966 he went to England but did not return when the strike ended.

He recalls getting the idea for the song 'I Wish I Was in England' when he was in Tullow, County Clare. While there he spent many an evening with the fiddle player Paddy Canny. 'I Wish I Was in England' features on Christy Moore's second album 'Prosperous' released in 1972.
