The National Library of Ireland has run out of room and plans to expand.
The National Library is seeking additional space to house its collections.
Society has welcomed the additional accommodation which they see as the first step in the necessary expansion.
The lack of space at the Kildare Street premises has seen the map collection and numerous manuscripts withdrawn from public access. The hope is that the designation of new space, possibly at the College of Art, will mean that these collections will be again available to the public.
International publications from bodies such as UNESCO and the EEC will now be housed in a new building at Leinster Lane.
