Despite a postal strike and the petrol crisis the Cork Film Festival is ready to bring international cinema to the city.

The 24th Cork Film Festival is under the guidance of a new director and and will have a new veune at the Cork Opera House. This year the festival takes place from 23rd to 30th June, and promises a packed programme for film lovers.

The new festival director Robin O'Sullivan who took over from the late Dermot Breen admits that the prolonged postal dispute has presented communication challenges on all fronts.

The main change to the festival this year is the move to the Cork Opera House, where the evening performances will be held.

Engineer Stephen Grant who has worked on the installation of a film projector at the Cork Opera House. This new addition will make the work of the film projectionist easier.

'Appraisal' was a radio arts magazine, presented by Des Hickey. It was first broadcast on 23 February 1972, in a weekly slot on Radio Éireann. According to the RTÉ Guide, it aimed to "give a general flavour of what is happening in the theatre, in music, dance, cinema, mime, poetry and even books throughout the whole country" (16 May 1986, p. 12). It used a large panel of experts to review and discuss work.

‘Appraisal’ was incorporated into ‘The Arts’ in 1973, becoming a fortnightly programme until 15 October 1980, when it reverted to weekly. It ended on 8 September 1988.
