A rose is planted to symbolise hope for a lasting peace in Northern Ireland.

The walk began at the Mansion House in Dublin led by Lord Mayor John Gormley and made its way to the Peace Garden at Christ Church where a Peace Rose was planted to symbolise the hope of lasting peace in Northern Ireland. Before the walk began a representative from a group of runners for peace in Northern Ireland presented the Lord Mayor of Dublin with a gift from the Lord Mayor of Belfast.

The walk was organised by Peace '93 founder Susan McGrath who said it was an expression of hope for a real and lasting peace to develop from the IRA ceasefire announced earlier in the week. The objective of Peace '93 is to break down barriers between people in the Republic of Ireland , Northern Ireland and England.
