Simultaneous mass meetings call for peace in Belfast and Dublin.
Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) leader Gerry Fitt was among 12,000 people at a peace protest at in Belfast. Members the party left the SDLP annual convention at the Europa Hotel to attend the rally at City Hall.
A similar peace march took place in Dublin led by Dr. Alan Buchanan, Archbishop of Dublin and was attended by Dr. Garret FitzGerald and Dr. Conor Cruise O'Brien.
The simultaneous parades for peace in both Belfast and Dublin coincided with renewed peace talks between Sinn Féin and Stormont civil servants.
