Artists and musicians from many parts of the world contribute to a festival of arts in Kilkenny.

Kilkenny Arts Week was opened by actor Cyril Cusack to run from 25 August to 2 September. No stranger to Kilkenny Cyril Cuack having performed in the city as a young actor and member of a 'fit-up company.

One of the many lunchtime events was a performance of Francis Poulenc's 'Sonata for Piano and Clarinet' by John Gibson and John Finucane.

Among the exhibitions is one of contemporary glass from Finland sponsored by the Crafts Council.

Glass is a product of a play of light and the instantaneous solidifying of fluid mass.

Grapevine theatre group from Dublin put on an outdoor performance for children.

Festival committee member Peter Seaver talks about the success of the week's event which has attracted larger audiences than ever before. He praises the support provided by the local community.
