The National Yacht Club hosts the first Irish Half Ton Cup at Dún Laoghaire harbour.

The National Yacht Club ran the three day event for the Irish Open Half Ton Cup in Dún Laoghaire harbour. It is the first competition for boats of this size in Ireland. The event attracts 35 participants including four from Northern Ireland and two from Wales.

The offshore racing includes an 85 mile event lasting 24 hours. Following the ill-fated Fastnet Race, organisers place renewed emphasis on safety during the competitions.

Now that the event has proved successful it's hoped to make it an annual affair.
