Pat Kenny is announced as the next presenter of 'The Late Late Show'.

Pat Kenny is to be the new host of 'The Late Late Show'. The 'Kenny Live' presenter will take up his new role in September 1999 when the programme begins its 38th season.

Northern Irish comedian Patrick Kielty was believed to be frontrunner for the coveted 'The Late Late Show' job. Managing Director of RTÉ Television Joe Mulholland says Patrick Kielty was not offered the role before Pat Kenny.

Paddy Kielty was not offered 'The Late Late Show', we had discussions about a weekend show to be defined.

Due to work commitments in the United Kingdom Patrick Kielty is unable to present a show for RTÉ. Joe Mulholland hopes the station can attract him in the future.

We do hope to have Paddy Kielty before very long on our screens in whatever programme because he is a talented presenter.

Pat Kenny is eager to put his stamp on 'The Late Late Show' but is keenly aware that Gay Byrne cannot be replaced,

It will never be the same without the great man.

Gay Byrne is not gone for good. He is to present eight episodes of a 30-minute-long programme 'Make 'Em Laugh' about Irish comedy.
