Bakery workers are divided on whether to support a protest or carry on working.
Workers from bakeries around Dublin staged a protest outside some bakeries.
The placard-carrying protesters staged their protest at bakeries not already affected by the maintenance workers' strike. The protesters claim these bakeries are producing more bread than usual and continuing to deliver bread to shops. However, many staff passed the unofficial pickets and continued to work as normal.
One protester emphasised
This is not a picket in the accepted sense of the word. This is a protest group.
The purpose of the protest is to impress on people that in the event of future lockouts, closedowns or strikes, it is unfair for one section of bakery workers to be out of work while other members of the same union carry on working to produce much more than normal supplies.
One worker who passed the picket this morning says that his concern is to provide an income for his family.
