A new principal conductor at the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra.
Bryden Thomson, Jack to his friends, has recently taken over as the conductor of the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra. The Scottish conductor is no stranger to Irish shores having previously worked on guest arrangements with the orchestra. He also served as conductor with the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra.
Despite being a relative newcomer to the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra, Bryden Thomson has been living in Dublin for seven years. His wife Mary Ellison Thomson is also a musician and teaches piano at the College of Music in Dublin. The couple met while attending a summer course at Canford near Bournemouth in England.
Bryden Thomson will work alongside John Kinsella, Director of Music with the symphony orchestra, and is responsible for arranging programmes, soloists, and deciding on repertoire.
My title is Principal Conductor.
