Women attend a meeting of the College Historical Society at Trinity College Dublin for the first time.
The decision was made last month to admit women to membership of the College Historical Society (also known as The Hist). Founded in 1770 The Hist is the oldest student society in Trinity College Dublin and is also the world's oldest student debating society.
Visiting Chairperson is Sheelagh Murnaghan, Ulster Liberal MP (Member of Parliament) for Queen's University Belfast.
Rosaleen Mills is the first female speaker at the College Historical Society. She is a secondary school teacher who graduated from TCD with an MA in modern languages and women's rights activist. She proposes the motion 'That this house reveres the memory of Madam Pankhurst.’
