Best known as the manager of the Meath Gaelic football team Seán Boylan talks about his work as a herbalist
Seán Boylan is from a farming background in Dunboyne who comes from generations of herbalists. He describes what they do as being grounded in,
A knowledge of the use of plants.
Seán Boylan first saw his own father recover from ill health in the family home. His recovery came about with a combination of conventional medicine and by treating himself with traditional herbal remedies,
It was like second nature.
Seán Boylan stresses that his business focuses on plant-based medicaments that do not interfere with modern medicines prescribed by medical professionals,
I'm not talking about cures, I’m talking about treatments, remedies something that eases the conditions.
It was never a plan to work as a herbalist, but he was encouraged to do so by the teaching staff during his time as a student in Warrenstown Agricultural College. The realisation that his father was getting older copper fastened a decision to go into the family business.
It took time to gain a knowledge of herbalism, but he made progress over time not only in the study of plants and treatments while forming a strong bond with his father.
We had an extraordinary relationship.
