From the hospitality sector to community groups, the women of Kilkenny city lead busy lives.
Mrs Lee in partnership with her two sisters owns The Club House the oldest hotel in Kilkenny. She also has a hand in the day to day running of the hotel and credits her general manager Miss White with its success.
Fresh vegetables are on the menu all year round and although game is hard to come by, fresh fish is not.
I never have any trouble getting salmon.
Eva Monks is a Dublin woman who has lived in Kilkenny for forty years. She is a member of the local Red Cross group who offer water safety classes and provide assistance to older people in the community.
The Junior Red Cross in particular is very active, calling to older people in their homes and helping out where they can,
Go on messages for them, or look after them.
Ms Monks is also president of the local ladies’ branch of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVP). Their main work is visiting people in their homes and providing clothing, food and fuel to those in need. An important aspect of the work of SVP is spending time with people and listening to them, so that those who find themselves in difficult situations
Feel they have somebody to whom they can talk.
These two organisations often work together on events, and utilise the talents of the Junior Red Cross Branch,
To do all the running and bits and pieces for us on that day.
