Catherina McKiernan wins the Amsterdam Marathon in a personal best time and sets a new course record.
Despite running a personal best time of 02:22:23, Catherina McKiernan was a minute and a half outside the world record of 02:20:47 and missed out on the half a million dollar bonus prize.
The 28 year old Cavan runner had already won marathons in Berlin and London. Male pacemakers were enlisted to help Catherina McKiernan attempt to break the world record.. At the halfway stage, she was on target but weather conditions meant that her pace slowed in the final five kilometres.
The record slipped out of sight.
Despite not creating a new world record, Catherina McKiernan is pleased with her personal best time given the blustery weather conditions.
