Striking Dublin Corporation workers spread rubbish on city centre streets.

The striking workers from Dublin Corporation are seeking pay conditions similar to a recently agreed ESB pay deal. The dispute went on for three weeks. With no bin collections, vast amounts of rubbish accumulated on the streets of Dublin.

Strikers intercepted trucks and unloaded the rubbish onto the street. This report shows an incident on Gardiner Street where workers scattered the garbage from the back of a truck, blocking traffic. Police were called in to assist with the removal of the rubbish to enable the traffic to move again.

The strike ended when a deal was reached between the workers and Dublin Corporation. The workers then had the job of cleaning up the backlog.
