Warm weather across Leinster and Munster offers a brief reprieve from one of the worst summers in decades.

The weather offered sun worshippers respite from a disappointing summer. The Meteorological Office forecasts tropical winds and sunshine for much of the east, south and south east. The weather experts also predict that 8 August will be the hottest day of 1998.

Three words sum up a perfect summer's day; dry, warm and sunny.

Most of Munster and Leinster are experiencing temperatures in the high 20 degrees Celsius, but Ulster and Connacht are not faring so well.

The east coast and the south east are getting the best of the weather. Killiney beach in County Dublin is packed with people enjoying the sun. The south east, particularly Kilkenny, has been experiencing a mini heatwave for a number of days.

Unfortunately the spell of sun and high temperatures will be short lived. In a few days time the weather will be cooler and wetter again.
