Queues and long delays at the passport office in Dublin.

For the second year in a row, members of the public have had to endure long queues outside the Passport Office on Molesworth Street in Dublin. Unsurprisingly they are,

Bored, angry and frustrated.

Inside the office is a hive of activity, with almost twelve hundred passports issued every day. Extra staff have been recruited for the busy summer period. The Passport Office describe the current situation as,

An unprecedented and unpredictable demand.

According to Martin Rouine of the Passport Office, the majority of people queuing do not need to be there, as applications are being completed within a four week period. Those waiting outside have their own suggestions to dealing with the problem.

They should decentralise it.

Passport Office branches in the regions could be an option in the future, but for the time being the wait goes on.
