Young people take part in cultural events around the country for Cruinniú na nÓg.

Organised by Creative Ireland, the aim of Cruinniú na nÓg is to encourage young people to enjoy and take part in local artistic events.

Among the 500 organised cultural events was one where young people got to learn some circus arts with Galway Community Circus.

Respect the sea was the message from scouts in Clontarf who worked with musicians to write songs on an environmental theme and perform them in public. Scout Farrach Connolly explains that the songs are to make people aware of all the sea creatures being killed by pollution. Another scout, Leo Sharry said they had great fun learning the songs. Scout leader Liz Pigott Glynn describes how the young people were empowered by the musicians to create their own music.

In Waterford, the emphasis was on getting children involved in creative and visual arts. Alfie Corcoran is just one of the participants making a mosaic.

It's hope the tasters offered today will encourage children to take part in the arts in the future.
