Tipperary is the venue for a military show that thrills and entertains.
Fine weather ensures a huge attendance at the military mini-tattoo held in the Clonmel Showgrounds, County Tipperary. The theme of the event is 'The Army of the seventies mechanised and airborne' with 270 men from units of the Defence Forces participating.
Events kick off with a parade and recital of massed bands composed of the Number 1 Army Band, Dublin, the Band of the Southern Command, Cork and the combined Army Pipe Band.
This is followed by a gymnastic display from athletes from the Curragh, Western and Southern Commands.
Daredevils from the Cavalry Corps provide a thrilling motorcycle display which includes a rider driving through a wall of flame.
An air rescue demonstration sees an injured person and crewman winched aboard an Irish Air Corps helicopter.
The most spectacular event of the day is the simulated battle filled with gunfire and explosions. The 30 participants demonstrate how a platoon operates in a conventional tactical situation.
