Nine centenarians are honoured at a special ceremony in the Mansion House Dublin.

With a combined age of 905 years, nine of Dublin’s 35 centenarians gather at the Mansion House at the invitation of the Lord Mayor Gay Mitchell. At a special ceremony to mark the European Year of Older People and Solidarity between Generations each centenarian is awarded a framed scroll.

One attendee is 100 year old Philip Brady, a pharmacist from the South Circular Road. He held the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1959. He attributes his youthfulness to,

Fast women and slow horses.

Also attending the ceremony is 101 year old Katherine Stapleton. Her secret to longevity is to keep away from doctors,

If you haven’t got something, then you have, and you can’t contradict them.
