Designer Hilary Dunphy on the attitude of Irish people to clothes and fashion.

Hilary Dunphy runs Adam and Eve's boutique on Mount Street with her husband. With a background in fashion and dress design, she has lived in the United States as well as well as in Lebanon where women have a completely different approach to fashion,

Everybody had a glorious suntan, and they didn’t mind showing skin.

She believes the Irish attitude to clothing seems to be dictated by surroundings, the weather and affordability,

We’re very drab as a people.

Hilary Dunphy would like to see Irish women take more chance with fashion and have more confidence in themselves,

If you’re prepared to be individualistic...the end results will be a lot better.

She designs and creates a range of clothing with her staff in the workshop on Mount Street. Many Irish women would benefit from a more coordinated look she believes,

They’d look smashing.
