Gay Byrne presents a selection of photographs from the Carroll's Press Photographers Association of Ireland (PPAI) awards. A panel of experts judged 1,012 entries from press photographers at an awards ceremony held at Jury's Hotel in Dublin to select the photographer of the year.
The photographer of the year is declared.
Among Gay Byrne's personal selection are 'In The Head' and 'Home is the Hero' by Richard T Mills from The Cork Examiner; 'Gloomy Outlook', 'Marathon Man', 'Skehan's Skill' and 'Sill Life' by Tom Lawlor from The Irish Times; 'Labour of Love' by Joe O'Shaughnessy of the Connaught Tribune; 'Food For Thought' by Des Barry of The Cork Examiner; 'John and Gene and the way they might look at you' by freelance photographer Richard Coe; 'Whistling Picket' by Martin Nolan of The Irish Independent; 'By The Light Of Other Years' by Kieran Clancy of The Cork Examiner; 'Seán MacBride' by freelance photographer Andrew Spearman; and 'Easy Rider' by freelance photographer Ruth Rogers.



The Photographer of the Year Award went to Tom Lawlor of The Irish Times.
All the photographs form part of an exhibition at Carroll's headquarters at Grand Canal Parade in Dublin.
