Three of Ireland's biggest soccer stars Robbie Keane, Richard Dunne and Damien Duff are awarded the Freedom of South County Dublin.

Fans young and old attend a special ceremony at the Civic Offices to witness Irish soccer players Robbie Keane, Richard Dunne and Damien Duff, receive the Honorary Freedom of the County of South Dublin. This is the highest civic honour the County Council can award to a person. The awards are presented by County Mayor Billy Gogarty.

Robbie Keane and Richard Dunne are both from Tallaght while Damien Duff grew up in Ballyboden in the suburb of Rathfarnham.

Republic of Ireland and Tottenham captain Robbie Keane is proud of this award,

It's a great honour and it’s a great privilege to receive something like this.

Manchester City’s Richard Dunne is also delighted,

Hopefully the Council here believe we’ve done something good for Tallaght and for South Dublin.

His parents Richard and Phyllis Dunne attending the ceremony hope their son will be an inspiration to the young children in Tallaght.

Newcastle United’s Damien Duff is devastated he cannot be at the ceremony in person due to injury, but his brother Gerard accepts the award on his behalf.

The soccer stars join the Olympic swimmer Michelle Smith and Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt to on the South County Dublin role of freedom.
