As new members of An Garda Síochána graduate from Templemore, Minister for Justice Seán Doherty reminds them of the threats to the security of the State.

In his speech at the passing out ceremony Minister Doherty referred to the financial costs required to combat terrorism in this country, and how this has left urban areas with reduced policing,

The growth in crime in recent years has been frightening.

This year the State will spend one hundred and eleven million pounds to deal with terrorism said the Minister, the impact of which will be felt by many,

A serious threat to the job prospects of young people...hardship and distress for the old and infirm.
