Two Canadians plan to sail across the Atlantic from Ireland to America in a twenty two foot currach.

Canadian sailors Vint Lloyd and Captain Louis Lourmais plan to sail in a currach from the tiny harbour of Bunowen, Ballyconnelly, near Clifden in Galway, 5,500 miles across the Atlantic ocean to North America.

Currently in Fenit, the men plan to travel the 80 mile trip to Bunowen on their 22-foot craft, the St Brendan II, before beginning their voyage.

Vint Lloyd spoke to RTÉ News about the journey the men face. They expect that the voyage from Ireland to America will take between three and five months, depending on how many times they get lost along the route.
