There is a big turnout for the pony races in Ahascragh, County Galway.

Fine weather brings the crowds to the Ahascragh pony races held in the Sir George Mahon estate at Castlegar in County Galway. The bookmakers are also out in force which means,

No shortage of tales of fortunes won and lost.

The six races on the programme are sponsored by the local development association and the local Gaelic Athletic Assciation (GAA) club. The total prize fund is over £500. The top event of the day, the Vintners Chase has a prize of £100. It is won by Letterkenny entrant Ribbons and jockey Eric Moore.
The best jockey trophy is won by 12 year old Mark Dwyer of Ashbourne in County Meath.
