Superquinn launches a second play bus to entertain children while their parents go grocery shopping.
The Minister for Education Martin O'Donoghue is at Superquinn in Bray, County Wicklow on the occasion of the launch of the second play bus. He is greeted at the store by Superquinn Managing Director Feargal Quinn.
Superquinn introduced their playbus in 1981 to help their customers shop in peace. They understood the difficulties encountered by parents dragging crying and irritable children around their stores.
To make shopping more attractive and naturally enough to entice more customers, the company felt that buying buses was a worthwhile investment.
The playbus parks outside various Superquinn branches on certain days each week. Before going into the stores, parents can leave children between the ages of 2 and 6 years old on the bus where they are supervised by two trained staff. Parents collect their children when they have completed their shopping.
The idea is simple but has been a great success. Attendees on the bus are now running at about 1,600 each week. Superquinn have plans to bring more buses on stream in the future.
