A memorial service at the Holy Trinity church in Manhattan honours the Irish people killed in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Brian Cowen joins leading members of the Irish clergy at a memorial service in New York to honour the Irish victims of 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre.

Bishop John Buckley of Cork and Ross celebrates mass with Bishop of Killaloe Willie Walsh at the Roman Catholic Holy Trinity church in Manhattan. Bishop Buckley believes Ireland's National Day of Mourning demonstrates,

The solidarity of the Irish people with the American people.

In attendance at the service are Margaret and Pádraig McHugh from Tuam in County Galway. Their daughter Anne-Marie McHugh is one of five Irish people killed in the attacks on the Twin Towers.

Over a 24 hour period there have been 16 separate memorial services for missing New York Fire Department firefighters. Brian Cowen visits a firehouse in Upper Manhattan where ten firefighters lost their lives in the World Trade Centre.

New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani estimates the final death toll from the World Trade Centre attacks will be around five and a half thousand,

These memorial services and funerals are expected to go on for many weeks, if not months.
