Former US President Bill Clinton begins a visit to Ireland with a round of golf in Ballybunion.
It is politics and pleasure for former US President Bill Clinton who arrived at Kerry Airport for a five day trip to Ireland.
It was a low key arrival for Bill Clinton with a small Garda presence and his secret service detail down to just a handful. While they were not anxious for him to mingle with locals Bill Clinton took some time to meet them.
Speaking briefly to RTÉ News Bill Clinton said,
It's wonderful to be back.
President Clinton played a round of golf in Ballybunion with former Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dick Spring. When asked whether he was meeting the president for politics or pleasure, Dick Spring replied,
There’s lots of politics in sport. There’s lots of sport in politics.
While today was all about golf, tomorrow President Clinton moves on to the more serious business of meeting the President and the Taoiseach in Dublin.
