The Meath village of Ráth Chairn wins the Glor na nGael Award for its efforts to promote the Irish language in community life.
The Glor na nGael prize includes the Oisin Kelly Trophy and a cash prize of £1,500, and was by President Patrick Hillery.
Ráth Cairn was the overall winner of the competition aimed at finding a town or area which has done most to promote Irish through community life.
The small village of Ráth Chairn near Athboy has been a Gaeltacht area for over 50 years.
At the prize giving ceremony, President Hillery inspected a guard of honour drawn from the 7th infantry battalion of the FCA. The president along with other dignitaries also attended mass at Séipéal Naomh Padraig.
There were 88 entries to the competition which looks at the use and promotion of the Irish language in the community.
This year's award was the 24th presentation of the Oisín Kelly Trophy, sponsored by Cumann na Sagart and organised by Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge.
Ráth Cairn win was reward for a number of projects including the running of summer colleges, participation in Slógadh and the GAA, the opening of a shop and the construction of a church.
