Plans announced to redevelop and transform the docklands area of Dublin.
The £200 million development proposal is for Dublin port and docks on the north side of the River Liffey around Custom House Docks. The plans for have been drawn up by architects and have been submitted to Dublin city planners for approval. The proposition will
Dramatically change the present redundant warehousing area of the port into a luxurious commercial enterprise.
The plans have been designed as a guideline for potential developers and include a large area of office development, factories, shopping centres, a landscaped park, hotels and a marina at Custom House Quay. It is envisaged the site will be developed in phases with only approved development allowed in each individual area. The development will take between ten and fifteen years to complete and will employ around twenty thousand people upon completion.
Manager of the Port and Docks Board Rober Hayes says there has already been a lot of interest from potential developers.
Land around this area has been sold for as much as £1 million an acre.
In response to the plan, Dublin Corporation has requested certain changes which have yet to be incorporated into the plan.
