Crystal Swing perform and talk about becoming an online phenomenon.
From Lisgoold near Midleton in east County Cork, family band Crystal Swing comprises of Mary Murray-Burke, and son and daughter Dervla and Derek Burke.
Performing new wave Country and Western and Country and Irish and showband songs, fame was thrust upon them when their YouTube video of the song 'He Drinks Tequila' attracted millions of hits in Ireland and internationally.
Following a performance of ‘He Drinks Tequila’ they chatted to Ryan about how they got their break on Rural TV, which led to their now famed video. They’re all still at a loss as to what exactly people like about it, but Mary says,
It appealed to people.
Derek and Dervla are still in school but manage to combine their education with performances at weekends. Any negative comments on social media are outweighed by all the support received from their friends,
They’re all delighted for us.
Poised for even bigger success, the band is now on the radar of American TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres,
We’re ready to go.
