David Duffy is a talented young musician with ambitions to make it big in Nashville.
David Duffy from Crossmolina in County Mayo comes from a musical family. His mother plays the bass, his eldest brother John plays piano, guitar, piano accordion and sings harmonies and David’s twin brother Gerard plays drums, guitar and button accordion.
David Duffy's first instrument was the tin whistle and he first sang on stage aged four. When he was seven years old he took up the fiddle and two years ago he started learning clarinet and saxophone. However the fiddle is his favourite instrument.
You can really experiment more with the fiddle.
Once a week, David’s father drives him to Dublin for a violin lesson with Odhrán O Casaide. It is important for David to get a classical training because,
If you stay on the other, jazz, traditional and country, you won’t get as much technique and you won’t have enough ability to play.
David Duffy is unconcerned that his musical tastes may differ to that of his peers, many of whom prefer Kylie and Jason to country and western.
I like playing the music I play.
While respecting artists like Daniel O'Donnell, he has no intention of copying them. He already has his own fans and recounts a story where some them of ripped his trousers.
In ten years time David Duffy expects to be recording in Nashville, the country music capital of the world.
