A Cork poet welcomes President Ronald Reagan to Tipperary in verse.

Seamus Ó Céilleachair, poet and national school teacher from Ballyvourney, in the Múscraí Gaeltacht penned the poem which will be read in the presence of the the US President during his visit to Ballyporeen.

The name Seamus Ó Céilleachair will be familiar to children who learned poems from his books ‘Dánta Don Scolaire’ and ‘Nua-Fhilí’ during their days in national school.

The poem expresses delight at the impending visit, recalls the departure of Ronald Reagan’s great-grandfather Michael Regan from Ballyporeen, acknowledges the President’s career as an actor, and extends a Kelly’s Welcome,

Fáilte Uí Chealla’ a stór, 
Tá an domhain ag faire fáilte romhat, 
A dtráth seo deighilt an domhain, 
An leathanaigh leath eile...
