Irish fans describe what they witnessed during the Liverpool Nottingham Forest FA Cup tie in Sheffield.
The high demand for tickets for the FA Cup semi-final meant it is unlikely that more than a hundred Irish fans travelled for the game at Hillsborough in Sheffield.
Some Liverpool fans who witnessed the horrendous events that resulted in the fatal human crush spoke to RTÉ News as they returned home to Dublin.
The ones that we spoke to were still stunned and hardly able to express what they had seen.
One supporter describes the feelings of helplessness and shock as the events unfolded. Another explains how it was by chance that they were not caught up in the tragedy on the terrace. If they had arrived earlier, they would have been in the Leppings Lane end were the tragedy happened.
We had planned to swap our stand tickets and go up into the terrace.
Thirteen year old John Gill was in the terrace when the crush started and describes what he witnessed.
There were dead bodies lying next to me.
