Cork lights up for Christmas with a crib on the lake known locally as The Lough.
Lord Mayor John Murray performed the traditional countdown to the switching on of the Christmas lights on The Lough as it is known to generations of Cork People.
A crib has been built on an island in the centre of The Lough.
The illuminations have been funded by the local Credit Union and Cork City Council.
The Lough is fed by underground streams and is a protected wildlife area for the city of Cork, and includes a bird sanctuary which is to become a focal point for visitors to the area.
