Plans to switch off Dun Laoghaire street lighting in an effort to save money are not popular with local residents.

Reporter Carroll McHugh gets the reaction of the residents of Dun Laoghaire borough on plans to turn off streets lights. Most people in the area believe that any council attempts to save money should be found elsewhere. Those particularly worried are the elderly residents who have concerns over safety on the streets of Dun Laoghaire after dark.

One resident comments,

You couldn't walk the streets at night. It would be too risky.

One 78-year-old though is not so scared saying,

I tell you he'd want to be bigger than I am. I'm seventy-eight but none of that. I'd knock him down.
