A public reading of the short story 'The Dead' from James Joyce's 'Dubliners'.

'The Dead' centres around a dinner which takes place in Dublin on 6 January. The reading was planned to take place in Sweney's Pharmacy on Lincoln Place in Dublin, which is mentioned in Ulysses. Now a book shop a place of pilgrimages for fans of Joyce's work who come for readings, to browse the books and buy lemon soap. However, due to the huge interest in the event and pressures on space, the reading was moved the Mont Clare Hotel around the corner. 'The Dead' is read by Val O'Donnell.

Public readings and performances of Joyce's work are expected to increase in 2012 as the copyright restrictions on his major works were lifted on New Year's Day.

The dinner from 'The Dead' is also being recreated at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin. However, over 150 tickets have been sold for the now sold out event.
