90 years after the 1916 Rising plans are afoot for a commemoration ceremony in Dublin.
The government has announced plans for two and a half thousand members of the Defence Forces to take part in a military parade on Easter Sunday 2006. The parade will include members of the Gardaí, and veterans of UN service overseas. The day will begin with a wreath laying in Kilmainham Gaol followed by a military parade from Dublin Castle to the GPO on Dublin's O'Connell Street.
This report includes archive footage from a military parade from Easter 1971.
Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea who is in charge of the commemorations comments on the inclusive nature of the commemoration saying
I hope that all the people can meaningfully participate.
