Michael William Balfe (1808-1870) was born on Pitt Street in Dublin city centre. The street has since been renamed after the composer as Balfe Street.
In his time, there's no doubt about it, he was the most popular composer in the world.
The programme includes a dramatisation of Balfe's early life played by Donal Murray. Balfe appears as a boy exploring Dublin's Christ Church Cathedral.
