Seven year old David Moran from Swinford in County Mayo reports for duty at Dublin Castle to begin a week of garda training.

This is a far cry from Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin where he has been treated for the last 18 months for leukaemia.

His dream to be a garda was made possible by the ‘Make-A-Wish Foundation’. The Foundation grants wishes to children aged between three and 17 suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

After a spot of traffic duty, the new recruit was visited by none other An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.  If this was not enough, before his week is over, David will meet Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy before accompanying the Garda Band out at Croke Park.

David's mother Emma says,

This means absolutely everything to him, it’s his dream come true. It is great seeing him in the uniform and actually seeing him do what he wants to do.
