The 2nd Dublin Street Carnival took place on 29 June 1985 and was followed by disturbances around the city.
Thousands of young people were in Dublin city centre following a U2 concert at Croke Park and thousands more flocked to the city to enjoy the Dublin Street Carnival. There were a number of clashes and shop windows were broken.. Both the Gardaí and festival organisers blamed the trouble on excessive drinking.
This report shows shops on and around Grafton Street with boarded windows following the destruction.
Apart from the trouble, the festival was deemed a success with live music, and a miniature barge race on the river Liffey. Festival Organiser, Mary Freehill, spoke to reporter Conor Fennell about the festival and the disturbances.
