Glenties and Bandon compete for a Guinness World Record to have the greatest number of people dressed as leprechauns in the one place.

Two Irish towns set out to beat the Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people dressed as leprechauns gathered in the one place.

Glenties in Donegal at one end of the country vied against Bandon in Cork at the other, and each town was confident. Leprechauns came from near and far to both towns, though as Carmel Doherty of Glenties warned, improperly dressed leprechauns would be eliminated.

Everything had to be in place, down to the buckles on their shoes. Ger Fitzgerald felt that Bandon had it in the bag, and she was right Bandon had 1,263 leprechauns compared to 1,024 for Glenties.
