'Féach' Visits Clondalkin Naíonra
In 1980 'Féach' reporter Éamon Ó Muirí went to Clondalkin to investigate the naíonra that had been open for two months. Irish-language pre-schools were supported by Bord na Gaeilge, and there were more than 80 in the country that year. But how was this naíonra in suburban Dublin faring? How effective was it as a means of introducing children to Irish?
In this extract, Ó Muirí spends the morning at the naíonra and talks to Nóra Uí hIfearnáin, who set up the naíonra in the local GAA club.
Thug an Cumann Lúthchleas Gael seomra di mar bhí siad ag iarraidh Gaeilge a chur chun cinn sa cheantar. Bhí sé ar intinn le fada naíonra a oscailt i gCluain Dolcáin. Déanann Uí hIfearnáin gach rud trí mheán na Gaeilge,
Tá siad ag teacht ar aghaidh. Tuigeann siad a lán do na rudaí atá á rá agam, cé nach bhfuil siad in ann aon freagra a thabhairt, ach tuigeann siad. Agus sin tús maith.
