In 2009 water shortages were in the news despite the heavy rainfall and floods.
The shortages occurred when drinking water was contaminated and a public health warning was issued as a result of the flooding in Cork.
This RTÉ News report shows Gardaí from the Gurranabraher station in Cork out and about with Marie Finnegan of the local Senior Citizen organisation delivering water to the elderly and sick in the area.
Cork County Council appealed to people to conserve water.
Following heavy rainfall the ESB opened dams in Cork city which led to widespread flooding.
