The damage done to the the town of Youghal after a major storm in 1962.
A storm in 1962 hit the coastal town of Youghal hard. William Matthes filmed the damage with his 8mm camera. The ketch The 3 Brothers owned by Commander Arbuthnot, was broken up on the front strand ,while much of the town was severely damaged.
The sea wall surrounding Green Park collapsed from the sheer force of the water. Concrete was broken up and thrown all over the park which was flooded. The front strand promenade was also badly damaged.
The Buoys the Blackball, and The Bar Rock were washed ashore, one in Green Park, the other in The Strand. The resounding waves on the beach, revealed rarely seen peat masses along the beach, evidence of our past connection with Yew Trees covering Youghal. All of this damage William Matthes captured with his 8mm camera
