The opening ceremony of the Special Olympics Ireland Games will be held today at the People's Park in Limerick, with the competition itself taking place in venues across the city.
Ireland first held a Special Olympics in 1979. 400 athletes from all over the country went to Gormanstown in Co. Meath over the weekend of 20 to 22 April to compete for 16 places in the New York Special Olympics. This RTÉ News report shows some of the events.
