The Irish Kidney Association has said it received more than 5,000 requests for organ donor cards in the days following the documentary "Orla Tinsley: Warrior".
The requests for donor cards came via Free text, email, phone and requests to the Irish Kidney Association website www.ika.ie
Mark Murphy, chief executive of the IKA, said that on a normal day, it would receive between 20 and 50 requests for organ donor cards.
The documentary, which aired on RTÉ One on Monday night, followed Orla Tinsley through her health battle as she awaited her transplant.

Ms Tinsley spoke of her delight on Twitter following the recent increase in donor card uptake, saying organ donation is the "ultimate legacy".
"This is true community. This is how we are all connected and can help one another. Organ donation is the ultimate legacy," she said.
She thanked people for committing to save lives, adding that one person could save up to eight people.
2. 4,000 and climbing. You are so beautiful. This is true community. This is how we are all connected and can help one another. Organ donation is the ultimate legacy. I am thinking of my donor right now because she is the reason I'm alive. #organdonation #recycleyourself
