Guns, ammunition and up to 30kgs of illegal drugs have been seized by gardaí in a raid in Co Kildare linked to the Kinahan crime cartel.
The seizure was made by officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau supported by local and armed units at a house in Sallins Bridge in Sallins late last night.
An intensive search has been under way since then and the Garda Technical Bureau has been called in.
So far an AK47 assault rifle has been found along with firearm magazines and assorted ammunition for a variety of different guns.
Thirty blocks of powder taped in brown masking tape has also been found, said to be packed in the way illegal drugs are.
Gardaí believe there may be 20kgs of cocaine and 10kgs of heroin worth an estimated €3m.
The drugs and weapons were hidden in various rooms around the house - some within furniture, others in concealed compartments.
In a statement, Tánaiste and Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald said the operation at Sallins underlines the fact that gardaí are "being relentless and resourceful in tackling the menace of organised crime gangs."
She said that no one should "underestimate the scale of the challenge" which the gardaí face, adding that the Government will "continue to support fully An Garda Síochána in these efforts."
