A man is in a critical condition in hospital after an assault in Co Offaly.
The incident took place at McAuley Drive in Birr shortly after 1am this morning.
The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, with a number of stab wounds.
Gardaí arrested a man in his early 20s close to the scene. He is being detained at Birr Garda Station.
